Urmila On Karzzzz And The ‘Dhokla Boy’

6th October

Himesh Reshammiya is an ardent fan of hers and made his surprise quite evident when she decided to work with him. Urmila Matondkar is making a huge comeback with Karzzzz. The new ‘Kamini’ is as vibrant and good looking as she used to be and the innocence on her face hasn’t withered a bit either. We caught up with the actress and got chit chatting.

What Karzzzz are you under right now?
Urmila: I’m under the Karzzzz of the people who are responsible for where I am today. I’m trying my best to repay the Karzzzz with each of my films.

Are you also under the Karzzzz of actress Simi Garewal, whose role you’re portraying?
Urmila: I think comparisons are a part of an actor’s life. When you’re new, you’re compared to established actresses; later on you’re compared to actresses at your own level. It’s something the media does best. What an actor needs to do work to his best abilities. My ultimate referee is my audience.

In the original film, Simi Garewal had no item number, but it seems an Urmila film has to have one?
Urmila: You’ll have to ask Satish Kaushik and Bhushan Kumar about that. In ‘Tandoori Nights’, it’s Kamini letting her hair down, so I had to keep that in mind. If it was Urmila dancing, I’d set the stage on fire.

When we first found out you were going to play Kamini, we were quite surprised as we didn’t think you’ve got the look of a murderer.
Urmila: Manish Malhotra and others always tell me my face hasn’t changed since my film Masoom. When there is so much God gifted innocence on your face it gets really challenging to portray different characters.

Why did Urmila choose to work with self confessed ‘Dhokla boy’, Himesh? Will Karzzzz be able to retain the surprise element of the original film? This and more in an exclusive chat with Urmila Matondkar.
