This time New Year saw a quiet celebration from Bollywood stars as the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the ongoing recessionary phase led to cancellation of events and tightened security everywhere. The Taj, Oberoi and Trident hotels opted out of hosting their annual New Year parties.

Amitabh Bachchan spent a low key evening at home with wife Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek and Ash were in Ooty in the state of Tamil Nadu busy shooting for their next. Preity Zinta is vacating overseas. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor went for a pre-planned holiday break after Saif was released from the hospital a few days ago. Ajay Devgan continued his annual celebrations at his farm house at Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Ameesha Patel and Raima Sen set the stage afire with their performances at the Country Club for New Year celebrations. Also, Sanjay Dutt hosted a party at home to welcome the oncoming year.

Let bygones be bygone: Looks like that infamous spat a few months ago has been eclipsed by a wave of nostalgia. Aamir Khan was there to launch Bachchanalia, a second biography written on the living legend Amitabh Bachchan.

At the event, Aamir was all praises for Big B. I was very little when Mr. Bachchan started his superstardom…and hats of to him to to carry it off till date… I don’t think anyone else can do it, he said.Speaking on the occasion Big B said, I feel embarrassed to stand here and talk about a book on myself, but it is a very emotional moment for me.

Author Bhavna Somaiya said that it was a nostalgia trip for her all over again to put together what Big B has achieved and that she had got the full support of the superstar.

Cheer up girls! Now is the stripping season for Bollywood hunks. For long, Bollywood actresses have used their weapon of skin baring to make their way to success. Now, it is Bollywood males who are entering into the dare-bare territory.

John Abraham had stripped down to the barest minimum on the beach in “Dostana”. Now, reports say that he has bared it all for a torture scene in his next film “New York”.

The scene in question is for a prison for director Kabir Khan’s flick which narrates the tale of friendship and terrorism.

Earlier, Kunal Kapoor in “Rang De Basanti” and Ranbir Kapoor in “Saawariya” did bare-back scenes that were deleted when the films opened. But John’s nude scene is set to remain in “New York”, which is slated for a January release.

Said a source close to the project: “It’s a prison sequence in the US where John, who is suspected to be a terrorist, is denuded of all dignity. This is how they break your spirit in an American prison when they want you to confess to being a terrorist.

“They make you eat, sleep, urinate and defecate in the same room. Then they begin to strip your dignity down… until you are left in the cold, dingy cell completely naked. John had to enact this sequence.”
